Kwansei Gakuin University – Global Career Seminar in Canada

Applications for Winter 2027 will open in early Fall 2026.

Kwansei Gakuin University offers the following course: Global Career Seminar in Canada (0.5 credit) during February Reading Week. You will be introduced to current business issues and find solutions for actual problems that are assigned to you by companies/ organizations based in Canada. You will work on a business case together with students from Japan and Canada. Students will work on business cases for the following companies in 2026: Ernst & Young, Yamaha Canada Music, SHS (Student Homestay Service), Kubota Canada, and General Hospital.

This program is part of the Cross-Cultural College (CCC), is a collaborative education project between Japan and Canada: Kwansei Gakuin University, Mount Allison University, Queen’s University, Western University, and the University of Toronto. With an emphasis on student mobility and teamwork, the program provides opportunities to develop international networks, and nurtures active young people to become world citizens and leaders. The CCC program offers three unique opportunities for students from participating universities to learn collaboratively, through online modules and an in-person intensive program which includes an experiential learning component.

Program Structure

Online Lecture Series (both asynchronous and synchronous): November – January

Intensive In-person Seminar Period: February Reading Week at the University of Toronto St. George Campus.

Accommodation

Students will be required to stay in the shared accommodations for the in-person seminar period. The program fee includes shared accommodation at the Chelsea Hotel Toronto (meals not included). UofT students must stay in the designated accommodation in order to facilitate collaboration between students from all universities. Basic arrangements will be shared twin rooms.

Tuition

Tuition will be charged (0.5 credit) for students who are not already paying UofT program fees for the Winter term. KGU program fees (approx. 92,000 JPY) are required for all participating students.

Eligible students may also apply for the needs-based IE Award.

This program can work towards the Cross-Cultural College’s Certificate Program (CP). Students who complete one or more courses through the Cross-Cultural College including the Global Career Seminar in Canada (Winter, February), Global Career Seminar in Japan (Summer, July), and/or the Global Internship in Japan (Summer, August) may be eligible for the Certificate!

CCC Certificate 

The Cross-Cultural College certificate recognizes the cross-cultural learning that students have done, both through their participation in the CCC program, as well as throughout their regular studies at their home university. 

To be eligible for the CCC certificate, students must fulfill 3.0 FCE worth of courses that are taken from the following thematic areas: 

Group A: Courses on Multicultural Issues and Theory 

One course taken at U of T (0.5 credits) that covers themes related to multicultural issues and theory and/or examines particular regions or global phenomena dealing with multicultural dynamics. This includes courses in literature, language, religion, or society with content relating to more than one culture. 

Group B: Courses on International Relations Issues and Theory 

One course taken at U of T (0.5 credits) that covers themes related to International Relations issues and theory, and/or looks at particular national or global situations. This includes courses with an international focus in history, political science, global studies, or economics 

Group C: Experiential Learning through Cross-Cultural College Core Courses  

One (or more) of the courses offered through the CCC program: 

Global Career Seminar in Canada (0.5 credits)  

Global Career Seminar in Japan (0.5 credits)  

Global Internship in Japan (0.5 credits)  

Group D: Courses Focusing on Cross-Cultural Skills and Knowledge Content 

Course taken at UofT totaling 1.5 credits, that have cross-cultural focused skills and knowledge content. This includes courses in language, literature, beliefs or practices of a culture other than the student’s own. 

Additional CCC courses taken in Group A, B, C can count towards the Group D requirements.  

Eligibility of courses taken in Groups A, B and D are assessed on an individual basis.
