Established more than 200 years ago, in 1810, the Humboldt University of Berlin is one of the most prestigious universities not only in Germany but also in Europe. The university has a world-class reputation in arts and humanities fields, consistently ranking among the top 100 universities worldwide according to USNews. The university has been home to many of Germany’s greatest thinkers of the past two centuries, among them the subjective idealist philosopher Johann Gottlieb Fichte, the theologian Friedrich Schleiermacher, the absolute idealist philosopher G.W.F. Hegel, the Romantic legal theorist Friedrich Carl von Savigny, the anti-optimist philosopher Arthur Schopenhauer, the objective idealist philosopher Friedrich Schelling, cultural critic Walter Benjamin, and famous physicists Albert Einstein and Max Planck. Language Requirements: Exchange students must have at least B2 level proficiency in German, verified by certificates such as Goethe-Zertifikat, DSH, or TestDaF. For courses in English, a B2 level in English is required.
