To apply for Learning Abroad opportunities, the process differs on the program of your interest.

In some cases, there may be an online application portal open to students which contains certain deadlines and procedures. You should ensure your eligibility, and prepare all the required documents beforehand. You can apply directly through individual experiences.

Exchange Opportunities

The Exchange Program offers the experience of developing employability skills, globalizing classroom content, and expanding networks.

Also pay close attention to timelines and deadlines when looking into opportunities to learn abroad as they are program specific.

Summer Experience and Select Fall / Full Year Exchanges: December 4, 2023 

Fall and Full Year Exchange: January 17, 2024

Summer Experience: February 14, 2024 

Winter Exchange: April 3, 2024

*Students from Faculty of Law should apply by the deadlines specified by their faculty.

It takes approximately at least 8 weeks from the application deadline for the CIE to review and respond.

In order to apply for your exchange program, you will need to follow these steps:

  1. Choose your destinations and prepare a list of courses you are interested in taking at the host institutions
  2. Upload additional documents
  3. Answer questions about your motivations for studying abroad
  4. You will have the option to apply for funding. Provide us with additional information on your current situation, your parents’ and your personal resources, and any additional information that would support your application.

Non-Exchange Opportunities

With The CIE

The CIE advertises non-exchange opportunities such as Independent Summer Programs or placement opportunities. To apply for a non-exchange opportunity, please follow the instructions relevant to the opportunity as described in the experience page and click the “learn more” option at the bottom of the experience page to be redirected as needed.

Some opportunities will require applications to the CIE, others an application directly to the host institution. Make sure you understand the conditions and you follow the relevant application procedures.

Other divisions at U of T propose learning abroad opportunities, such as Summer Abroad, UTM Abroad, field trips… To apply for a non-exchange opportunity, please follow the instructions relevant to the opportunity as described in the experience page and click the “learn more” option at the bottom of the experience page to be redirected as needed.

Experiential Learning Opportunities

The CIE advertises experiential learning opportunities such as NUS NOC internship program or program-specific co-op opportunities. To apply for a experiential learning opportunity, please follow the instructions relevant to the opportunity as described in the experience page and click the “learn more” option at the bottom of the experience page to be redirected as needed.
