Located in the cosmopolitan city of Shanghai, Fudan University is one of the top universities in China. Fudan University International Summer Session (FISS) is a 4-week program taught in English, and FISS 2025 offers courses in law, history and culture, society and politics, business and economics, science and technology and Chinese language!
Credit Equivalency: 30 Fudan Credits = 5.0 U of T FCE. Students must obtain at least 6 Fudan credits (1.0 U of T credit)
Housing: On-campus housing is not guaranteed, but host institution will help in securing housing. Please refer to Fudan ISS website.
There are two different ways to apply for this program: Exchange and Non-Exchange. Please read the instructions carefully and apply for one of them.
A. How to apply (Exchange): U of T students are recommended to apply through CIE Learning Abroad to participate in this program as exchange students. Exchange students will pay the U of T tuition and incidental fees (equivalent to taking 1.0 FCE course at U of T), and the application fee and tuition fee at Fudan University will be waived. However, number of exchange spots is limited. Click on Apply for Exchange button below to apply. Application deadline for this exchange is February 12, 2025.
Exchange students must have their courses pre-assessed for transfer credit before their departure. Students who are nominated for the exchange will receive further instructions from CIE Learning Abroad regarding credit transfer.
B. How to apply (Non-Exchange): Students can choose to apply to the Fudan University independently and pay tuition fee directly to the host institution. After completing the program, credits earned as a Non-Exchange student may be considered for Post-Admission Transfer Credits, but transfer credit is not guaranteed. You must follow your home Faculty’s Post-Admission Transfer Credit procedures. It is your responsibility to consult with your Faculty Registrar’s office regarding transfer credits for independent (non-exchange) summer programs. Post-Admission Transfer Credits are different from transfer credits earned through exchange programs, and there is no guarantee that Post-Admission Transfer Credits can be applied to fulfill your program requirements.
- Follow the Application Guide for U of T students (Non-Exchange) and apply directly to Fudan International Summer Session if you prefer not to apply for exchange.
- Complete the Safety Abroad Requirements (including both Safety Abroad Registry and Workshop) 4 weeks prior to departure. Only students who complete all Safety Abroad requirements are eligible for IE+ Award and a 10% discount on FISS tuition fee.
- If you plan to apply for a post-admission transfer credit, please ensure you follow your home faculty’s post-admission transfer credit procedures:
- Applied Science and Engineering or via email
- Arts and Science (St. George)
- UTM
- UTSC
- Other Faculties: Contact your registrar’s office
- If you wish to apply for funding through the Centre for International Experience (CIE), you can apply for the IE+ Award. Please note that the processing time takes up to six weeks. If you are eligible to receive an IE Award+, your award will only be paid after all Safety Abroad Requirements are completed. You will not receive funds until you arrive at the site of your program.
- Once you have completed your summer program, ensure that an official transcript is sent directly from the host institution to your U of T Faculty’s Transfer Credit Office, not to the Centre for International Experience.
