The Chinese University of Hong Kong(CUHK) is a leading comprehensive research university. The Summer Undergraduate Research Research Program at CUHK is open to students in various fields.
Summer Research at CUHK: Summer Undergraduate Research Programme (SURP) provides an opportunity for undergraduate students from overseas universities to undertake research attachments for eight weeks at CUHK during the summer. Students will be actively engaged in research under the supervision of a CUHK faculty member.
There are 2 pathways for this SREP opportunity (please indicate which option you are pursuing in the Program Pathway section of the Learning Abroad application):
a) Not-for-credit (you do not pay U of T tuition or host university tuition).
b) Pre-approved research course: PCL397Y0/HMB394Y0CSB397Y0 (1.0 U of T credit).

Application Process for PCL397Y0/HMB394Y0/CSB397Y0:
- Submit CIE application by November 23, 2025.
- Applications will be reviewed by relevant U of T department
- Successful candidates will receive CIE’s nomination (SREP is a competitive program and nomination is not guaranteed)
- Nominated students submit partner application on CUHK’s portal following the guideline
- Nominated students will receive application results from CUHK
- Accepted students will receive pre-arrival information from CUHK
Application Process for Non-Credit:
- Review research projects and identify a project or supervisor
- Submit CIE application by the non-credit deadline
- Submit partner application on CUHK’s portal by the non-credit deadline
- Successful applicants will receive CIE nomination
- Nominated students will receive application results from CUHK
- Accepted students will receive pre-arrival information from CUHK
**Partner application guideline:
- Review research projects and identify a project or supervisor
- Apply directly on CUHK portal before Feb 6 and indicate which supervisor you are interested in conducting research with (please complete it by the U of T non-credit deadline)
- Upload all supporting documents to CUHK portal:
- ∗ Recent letter of recommendation from an academic staff (professor/lecturer) dated within six months from the time of application
- ∗ Latest academic transcript
- ∗ Copy of the identification/particulars page of the applicant’s passport
