Summer School: Utrecht University

Founded in 1636, Utrecht University is an esteemed international research university, consistently ranked in the top 15 in continental Europe and in the top 100 in international rankings. Utrecht is also a member of the renowned League of European Research Universities. The university offers 6 English-taught Bachelor’s programs, and 90+ English-taught Master’s programs. Students have taken courses here in areas such as Political Science, Sociology, and Fine Art.

Utrecht’s Summer School offers two courses to exchange students from the University of Toronto:

Credit Equivalency: 60 Credits = 5.0 UofT FCE

1. History of Art: A Thousand Years of European Highlights

Stay in three European cities, cover around 2000 years of Western art, and visit museums, cathedrals, and palaces to analyze famous works in front of the original artworks themselves. Open to students from all disciplines with a keen interest in Art History. No previous experience required!

  • Location: Florence, Utrecht, and Berlin.
  • Dates: 06 July 2020 – 14 August 2020 (6 weeks)
  • Credits: 12 ECTS
  • Additional mandatory fees: housing, course materials, and excursion tickets (€1050, all inclusive)

2. European Studies

Study Europe in Europe! In the first weeks, students will study the wider European society and travel to the European Parliament in Brussels. In weeks 3 & 4, you can choose between a focus on Europe in the Middle Ages or a focus on Contemporary and International Conflict Management. In the final weeks, the course will move to the twentieth century, with various excursions outside of Utrecht.

  • Location: Utrecht (field trips to Amsterdam and Brussels)
  • Dates: 06 July 2020 – 14 August 2020 (6 weeks)
  • Credits: 12 ECTS
  • Additional fees for optional student housing: €200 first week, €150 following weeks (6 wks = €950)
  • Optional: In weeks 3 & 4, you can choose between Europe in the Middle Ages or Contemporary and International Conflict Management
