Summer School Exchange: Masaryk University

Masaryk University, located in Brno, is the second-largest public university in the Czech Republic and the leading higher education institution in Moravia. At present it comprises nine faculties with over 200 departments, institutes and clinics. and is recognized as one of the most important teaching and research institutions in the Czech Republic and a highly-regarded Central European university.

Summer School at Masaryk University offers a unique and intensive learning experience, and the following 2 courses are available on exchange basis:

International Security: Practical Insights (6 or 8 ECTS) June 15 – July 6, 2025

Urban Sustainability: Engage in the Future (8 ECTS) June 15 – July 6, 2025

Credit Equivalency: 6-8 ECTS = 0.5 U of T FCE

Housing: Shared rooms in in Hotel Centrum, in the style of traditional student dormitories. 


There are two different ways to apply for this program: Exchange and Non-Exchange. Please read the instructions carefully and apply for one of them. 

A. How to Apply (Exchange): U of T students are recommended to apply through CIE Learning Abroad to participate in this program as exchange students. Exchange students will pay U of T tuition & incidental fees (equivalent to taking 0.5 FCE course at U of T) plus the program fee of 2000 EUR to Masaryk University.  However, there are limited spots available for exchange. Click on Apply for Exchange button below to apply.  Application deadline for this exchange is February 12, 2025. *On the Study Plan section of your application, please clearly indicate which course you would like to take. Exchange option is available for the 2 courses listed above only.

The program fee (2000 EUR) will include:

  • – Transportation for the weekend trips
  • – Accommodation in Brno and weekend trips
  • – Breakfasts
  • – Academic trips
  • – Opening and Closing receptions
  • – Culture activities around Brno

Exchange students must have their courses pre-assessed for transfer credit before their departure. Students who are nominated for the exchange will receive further instructions from CIE Learning Abroad regarding credit transfer.

B. How to apply (Non-Exchange): Students can choose to apply to Summer School at Masaryk University independently and pay tuition fee directly to the host institution.  After completing the program, credits earned as a Non-Exchange student may be considered for Post-Admission Transfer Credits, but transfer credit is not guaranteed.  You must follow your home Faculty’s Post-Admission Transfer Credit procedures. It is your responsibility to consult with your Faculty Registrar’s office regarding transfer credits for independent (non-exchange) summer programs. Post-Admission Transfer Credits are different from transfer credits earned through exchange programs, and there is no guarantee that Post-Admission Transfer Credits can be applied to fulfill your program requirements. *Note that courses with less than 6 ECTS may not be eligible for transfer credits at all.

  1. Apply directly to Summer School at Masaryk University. Masaryk University offers some discounts to students from University of Toronto (partner university). The amount of discount is indicated on each course information page.
  2. Complete the Safety Abroad Requirements (including both Safety Abroad Registry and Workshop) 4 weeks prior to departure. Only students who complete all Safety Abroad requirements are eligible for IE+ Award and possible partner university discount.
  3. If you plan to apply for a post-admission transfer credit, please ensure you follow your home faculty’s post-admission transfer credit procedures:
  4. If you wish to apply for funding through the Centre for International Experience (CIE), you can apply for the IE+ Award.  Please note that the processing time takes up to six weeks. If you are eligible to receive an IE Award+, your award will only be paid after all Safety Abroad Requirements are completed. You will not receive funds until you arrive at the site of your program.
  5. Once you have completed your summer program, ensure that an official transcript is sent directly from the host institution to your U of T Faculty’s Transfer Credit Office, not to the Centre for International Experience.
