Please note that this destination is only available to students registered in the Faculty of Applied Science and Engineering, and through the not-for-credit pathway.
2026 Summer Research Projects: browse the 14 Institutes and Centres at the host institution to identify your interested researcher.
2026 Research dates: maximum 3 months (90 days) between May and August.
Application timeline: Rolling admissions until February 10, 2026.
Housing: on-campus housing not available but the host institution will provide relevant information to admitted students.
Scholarships: ZHAW School of Engineering scholarships valued at 3,000 CHF max. are offered to admitted students on top of CIE funding.
Student Visa: Canadian citizens entering Switzerland for a period of less than 90 days do not need a visa. International students may refer to visa information here.
Application Process:
1) Browse the 14 Institutes and Centres and identify your interested supervisor
2) Submit CIE application no later than February 10 (**Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis, students are encouraged to apply early)
3) Send the following required documents to heug@zhaw.ch before February 10 (please combine all documents to one PDF file):
- ∗ Academic record (unofficial transcript downloaded from ACORN is acceptable)
- ∗ Academic CV or Resume
- ∗ A brief motivation letter outlining your interested supervisor and research area
4) Applications will be reviewed by the host institution and supervisors might request an interview
5) Successful applicants will receive CIE nomination (nominations will be confirmed on a rolling basis)
6) Nominated students complete an online application on the host institution’s portal
7) Admitted students will receive pre-departure information from the host institution
