A top 10 global university centered in Asia, the National University of Singapore (NUS) is Singapore’s flagship university, which offers a global approach to education and research, with a focus on Asian perspectives and expertise. NUS has 17 faculties and schools across three campuses.
The NUS Faculty of Science offers opportunities for undergraduate students from selected Partner Universities to participate in Undergraduate Research Opportunities Programme in Science (UROPS) and Undergraduate Research Attachment Programme in Science (URAPS) during the Summer from May till August. This programme provides students with opportunities to work on research projects they are interested in and under the supervision of NUS faculty members.

There are 2 pathways for this SREP opportunity (please indicate which option you are pursuing in the Program Pathway section of the Learning Abroad application):
a) Not-for-credit (you do not pay U of T tuition or host university tuition): UofT students will be enrolled in the URAPS programme. No transcript will be issued by NUS, participants will receive a certificate of completion upon successful completion of the programme.
b) Pre-approved credit course PCL397Y0, CSB397Y0, HMB394Y0Y (1.0 U of T credit): UofT students will be enrolled in the UROPS programme. Successful participants will receive a NUS e-transcript and a certificate of completion in February 2027.

Fees:
Students are required to pay Miscellaneous Student Fees (MSFs), which consist of the Health Service Fee (HSF) and the Student Services Fee (SSF) (Exchange). Please refer to NUS Office of the University Registrar (OUR)’s website for the amount of MSFs to be paid during the Special Term (~S$100). Application Process for PCL397Y0/CSB397Y0/HMB394Y0:
- Submit CIE application by November 23, 2025.
- Applications will be reviewed by the relevant U of T department
- Successful candidates will receive CIE nomination (SREP is a competitive program and nomination is not guaranteed)
- Nominated students secure a supervisor following the guideline (must obtain supervisor approval by March 8)
- Successful candidates will be invited by NUS to complete an online application
- Accepted students will receive further instructions on visa application
Application Process for Non-Credit:
- Submit CIE application by the non-credit deadline
- Reach out to interested NUS supervisors following the guideline
- Upon securing a supervisor, upload the proof of supervisor approval to CIE application portal – “Supervisor Approval” section
- Successful applicants will receive CIE nomination and be invited by NUS to complete an online application (nomination preference will be given to those who have obtained supervisor approval before February 10)
- Accepted students will receive further instructions on visa application. Students must obtain supervisor approval by March 8 to be admitted.
**Guideline for securing a NUS supervisor:
1. Reach out directly to participating NUS faculty members to express interest in joining the “Summer UROPS/URAPS for Exchange Students” during the Special Term under their supervision. A list of projects is not provided, and students may reach out to any participating faculty member to discuss project details and arrangements. Students and supervisors should discuss expectations to ensure alignment.
**Please only reach out to faculty members in the participating departments (list shown above), students who find a supervisor outside of the given list will not be accepted by NUS.
Suggested documents to be sent to potential supervisors when reaching out:
- ∗ Transcript/Academic record (copy downloaded from ACRON is acceptable)
- ∗ Academic CV with publication list (if any)
- ∗ Motivation letter indicating area of research interest
2. Students who have secured a supervisor upload their proof of approval to the CIE application portal, in the “Supervisor Approval” section in the “Partner Application” step.
**Proof of approval may include a screenshot of the email thread that clearly displays the supervisor’s name, contact information, and confirmation of approval.
3. Nominated students will be invited to apply to NUS via the NUS Online Application Portal (OAP), and are required to complete an online form to indicate the following information:
- ♦ whether they are doing UROPS (credit-bearing) or URAPS (non credit-bearing),
- ♦ project title,
- ♦ and the NUS supervisor’s email.
NUS application deadline for nominated students is March 8. It is mandatory to upload the following documents during the application:
