Freie Universität Berlin (FUB) is an internationally oriented leading research institution in the southwestern part of the German capital. Approximately 33,500 students study there, and roughly 4,000 doctoral candidates conduct research. About 460 professors teach and conduct research in a broad range of disciplines in the humanities and social sciences, as well as the natural and life sciences.
The “Short-Term Research Stay” program offers 2-3 months of natural science research in various labs at FUB. Students will gain valuable insights into the academic fields and enjoy a rich cultural experience in the vibrant city of Berlin.
This opportunity is only available through the not-for-credit pathway.

Housing: On-campus housing available but not guaranteed. The host institution will provide information on finding accommodation in Berlin.
FUB Scholarship: limited number of scholarship will be awarded to qualified candidates (must complete research placement by July 31, 2026).
Application Process:
- Review project list and identify your potential project
- Submit CIE application no later than December 23, 2025
- Submit host university application following the guideline by December 23 (local Berlin time)
- Successful applicants will receive CIE nomination
- Accepted students will receive further instructions about enrollment at the host university
