Summer Research Exchange: Chinese University of Hong Kong-Shenzhen

The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen (CUHK-Shenzhen) is committed to build up a world-class research university with a strong emphasis on internationalization. Through maintaining a global network of partnerships, CUHK-Shenzhen is dedicated to nurturing future high-end talents with global vision, cross-cultural capabilities and social responsibilities. Up to date, CUHK-Shenzhen has developed over 280 international programs with more than 160 world-leading universities across 37 countries/regions, aiming to provide students with various opportunities for international engagements.

Summer Research at CUHK-Shenzhen: the Summer Lab Research Programme (SLR) is an 8-week programme offering valuable research experience at their cutting-edge laboratories under the guidance of distinguished faculty members during the Summer Session with guaranteed on-campus residence.

The research topics cover a wide range of fields, including New Energy & Energy Efficiency Management, Big Data & Scientific Data, Modern Biological Information Engineering, Robotics & AI, Operations Management & Marketing, etc.

2026 Program Dates: early June to late July (exact dates to be announced)

Program highlights:

There are 2 pathways for this SREP opportunity (please indicate which option you are pursuing in the Program Pathway section of the Learning Abroad application):

a) Not-for-credit (you do not pay U of T tuition or host university tuition).

b) Pre-approved research course: PCL397Y0 or HMB394Y0 (1.0 U of T credit).

Application Process for PCL397Y0/HMB394Y0: 

  1. Submit CIE application by November 23, 2025.
  2. Applications will be reviewed by relevant U of T department 
  3. Successful candidates will receive CIE’s nomination (SREP is a competitive program and nomination is not guaranteed) 
  4. Nominated students reach out to the potential supervisor to obtain approval
  5. Nominated students who have secured a supervisor will be invited to apply on CUHK-Shenzhen’s portal following the guideline   
  6. Admitted students will receive an admission letter and pre-arrival information directly from CUHK-Shenzhen

Application Process for Non-Credit pathway:

  1. Review research projects and identify a project or supervisor
  2. Submit CIE application and supporting documents no later then Feb 5, 2026 (please combine CV and academic record to one PDF document and upload to the “resume” section on Mobility Online)
  3. Reach out to your interested supervisor and seek their approval (their contact email is provided in the research lab list)
  4. Students who have obtained supervisor approval upload proof of approval to the application portal Mobility Online (Partner Application stage)
  5. Successful applicants will receive CIE nomination 
  6. Nominated students will be invited to apply on CUHK-Shenzhen’s portal following the guideline   
  7. Admitted students will receive an admission letter and pre-arrival information directly from CUHK-Shenzhen
