Student Visa: Non-local students MUST apply for student visas in advance unless they have the right of abode or right to land in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region. Some foreign passport holders might be granted visa-free entry to Hong Kong as visitors. Such a ‘visitor’ status, however, does NOT serve the purpose of studying in Hong Kong. As per Hong Kong Immigration’s directive, CityUHK is unable to accept a student for enrolment if he/she cannot present a valid student visa.

Students are strongly encouraged to apply for their student visas through the host university’s Global Engagement Office (GEO). CIE will facilitate courier shipment of Visa documents, and as the visa/entry permit application processing may take 8 weeks or longer, nominated students must submit the application documents no later than March 12, 2026. For more information on student visa, please visit https://www.cityu.edu.hk/geo/non-local-students/visa/student-visa.
