The University of Tokyo offers a summer program, called Global Unit Courses (GUC), providing a great opportunity for students around the world to experience studying at one of the world’s foremost universities in East Asia. UTokyo GUC offers a variety of in-person and online courses with cutting-edge contents, taught by leading faculty members of the University of Tokyo. Overview of UTokyo GUC.
These short-term intensive courses, taught entirely in English by leading scholars from UTokyo, span a diverse range of disciplines, including humanities, social sciences, and STEM. Additionally, Japanese language courses are available. Most courses are completed within one to two weeks, granting students Global Units and a certificate per course upon completion.
Please note this is an independent summer school and applications should be made directly to UTokyo.

Program Fee: Program fees range depending on number of courses. There is an application fee of JPY 5,000. A fee of JPY 180,000 per Global Unit course. UofT students receive a 15% discount.
How to Apply:
1. Submit your application to the GUC program here. Please use your @mail.utoronto.ca email to apply to the partner.
By applying to UTokyo for GUC, you acknowledge that your information will be shared with UofT.
2. Once accepted, complete the Safety Abroad Requirements (including both Safety Abroad Registry and Workshop) 4 weeks prior to departure.
3. If you wish to apply for funding through the Centre for International Experience (CIE), you can apply for the IE+ Award. Please note that the processing time takes up to six weeks. If you are eligible to receive an IE+ Award, your award will only be paid after all Safety Abroad Requirements are completed. You will not receive funds until confirmation of your arrival at the site of your program.
