The Council on International Educational Exchange (CIEE) is hosting its 3rd Annual Student Challenge in collaboration with UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency.
The Opportunity
This is an opportunity for undergraduate students from across the globe, to present their ideas to support increasing access to higher education and livelihood for forcibly displaced youth around the world.
The challenge consists of three rounds:
Round 1 (February 10-21, 2025) – Teams will submit a 500-word proposal to address the challenge.
Round 2 (March 31 to April 11, 2025) – 36 teams will be selected from Round 1 to present their proposal to a panel of judges virtually.
Final Round (June 24-27, 2025) – The top 3 teams from Round 2 will earn a trip to Singapore to compete in the final round, in person, during the Global Internship Conference.
Grand Prize: The winning team will earn a CIEE-facilitated global internship in Summer 2026 and have their ideas shared with the UNHCR networks.
If a U of T team wins the grand prize, if they are still enrolled at U of T at the time of the internship, they may apply for an IE+ Award if they need financial assistance to help cover airfare to the internship city.
Registration
Students must register as teams, not individuals, as CIEE does not match students into teams. There is a $50 non-refundable registration fee per team.
Registration is now open until February 7, 2025

Please Note this is an independently-run event, it is not University of Toronto affiliated.
While some teams may be able to participate for a class if agreed upon with their professor, this is an independently run event by CIEE, and therefore teams must apply directly through the CIEE event website, and are not eligible for IE or IE+ Award funding to apply or participate in the Student Challenge.
